Positive Negative Neutral Advice
UMD is an average university at best.Quite BrightBiology
UMD is an average university at best. The only positive is the basketball team. Now here are the negatives and there are many. The student body consists of a lot of rich kids from New York or New Jersey who are so stuck up and snobby that they are impossible to get along with. Parking is a major pain since the lots fill up quickly and are far away from the academic buildings. Housing sucks-if you are lucky to get it, you will find a nice room filled with roaches and mice droppings. The administration is a joke-they'll fill you up with the wrong classes. The town of college park is a dangerous ghetto. Just about every day on the student paper, there is an article about a student or students being robbed a gun point or assualted.

Question
I have had a great time at CP.Quite BrightBiology
I have had a great time at CP. I wasn't thrilled to go here preferring to have gone to other more selective schools. I am happy I came to UMD. Save money and have gotten a great education and a fun college experience. I hope to go on to medical school, and the advising has helped me figure out more about the process. I think I will get into a good med school. I applied to top med schools. Looking forward to continuing my education with what I learned at UMD. One side note, the safety ON campus, is very good. The Campus Police are very effective and there is not much crime on campus. However in surrounding areas, for example a little bit out of the main College Park area, it can be bad at night. Just go in groups.

Question
I went to the University Maryland because ofQuite BrightBiology
I went to the University Maryland because of the opportunity to participate in the honors program. The courses I took in the honors program basically taught me how to write well and gave me an opportunity to study several different topics (architecture, religion, astronomy/astrology, etc) as a reprieve from my major. Now that I am in medical school and I reflect back, I realize how well my science professors prepared me and how much I learned in my biology classes. Living in a large metropolitan area with accessibility to the Washington, D.C. metro system provided lots of entertainment. Both performance and non-performance art at Maryland were also always worthy venues and relatively inexpensive (if not free). While there were some muggings on campus, the large (VERY LARGE) majority of them occurred when people placed themselves in compromised situations like walking alone through a dark area on or outside campus while intoxicated at 2am. Unfortunately there is a lot of poverty in the D.C. suburbs near College Park and that generally inspires some matter of crime, although I almost always felt safe as long as I made smart decisions, like making use of the extensive campus shuttle system and the door-to-door NITERIDE program. I was also impressed by the increased campus police presence following the string of 4 robberies in my junior year.
