I fully believe that the University of Michigan is truly one of the most outstanding schools in the world. While it may not necessarily be the absolute best in any particular field, most of its programs are among the top. Michigan is known in both academia and industry as excelling in fields as diverse as business, engineering, medicine, psychology, public health, law, music, atheletics (though basketball recently has something to be desired). Few other schools can boast that. For example, Harvard may be considered the "best" school in the US, but in terms of engineering they're a nobody. MIT may be known as the "best" engineering school, but who goes there to get a English degree? And Michigan's music program compares with schools such as Julliard.

While few students have more than one major, this diversity in excellence still has many benefits. Students unsure of what to study can settle on just about any major and know they are getting a top-notch education.

There are some problems with the University of Michigan: it's a large school, and easy to get lost in the system and be considered a number by the administration. And there is a fair amount of arrogance and snobbiness. Luckily, because of the size of the school, you're likely to find some people who share you interests and personality.
