Miami University is great school if you are looking for a university with a recognized reputation. However, that seems to be one of the few positive factors of the school. The education is great and the professors I have had were amazing. But, you will find that unless you are a business major Miami really does not care about you. All of the university's money goes into the Farmer School of Business, as other academic buildings are worse for wear, and the students who are a part of that program. Speaking of students, everyone here looks the same (Vineyard Vines and Patagonia might as well be sponsoring the school) and usually thinks the same (many Republicans). Most of the students are unapproachable, come from well off families, and are completely rude (not all though, I have found a few good people). For example, the first semester I was here a student was openly racist on social media (something that happens more than the University thinks) right after there were two + cases of rape within the first couple of weeks. Also, if you do not like to party, go to the bars, or drink every weekend you will be bored out of your mind. There is nothing to do even though the school claims that there are late night events for those students. These events are usually cheap art activities, an educational lecture, or movies that are only shown once a month. The closest movie theater is 15 minutes away via car (no bus takes you directly there, an uber costs around $20), the buses to downtown Hamilton do not run on the weekends, the bowling alley is in an obscure location and is always booked on the weekends by fraternities, there is only one coffee shop (not including a tiny starbucks), and a large number of the restaurants are not good (neither are the dinning halls- with the exception of Western and Bell). Overall, if you value a college experience that is more than just education and five to six different bars you can travel between every weekend, this is not the right university for you.
