I transferred here last year, and cannot say enough great things about Vanderbilt. Most of the negative reviews here are very old, and not at all accurate, and I wanted to address some of them. Overall, Vandy is an amazing school. Beautiful people, amazing professors, very smart students that push each other and work hard (and also party hard). I've gotten so much out of my time here. Anyway, to address the negative comments: 1) Yes, sexual assaults happen on college campuses. HOWEVER, Vandy does an AMAZING job handling them. For instance, with the football player scandal, the perpetrators were immediately expelled. That was a big deal, and they handled it swiftly and appropriately. I haven't heard of a severe sexual assault on campus in the entire time I've been here, though last year there were a few incidents involving freshman boys that couldn't keep it in their pants. The student body is notified of every incident (with a "a sexual assault occurred on campus at XXX location at XXX time and involved a man who came back to a dorm room with a female and the reported sexual assault took place" or something along those lines). There are AMAZING resources for women on this campus (women's center, separate sexual assault center, training and education about sexual assault for all fraternity members, etc). There IS somewhat of a "hookup" culture here, but I also know tons of people in committed relationships. 2) Yes, many students at this school have money, but many don't. Yes, there is greek life. Yes, it can be tough if you don't join greek life, but I also know plenty of kids who didn't join and have very active social lives and are friends with greeks and non-greeks alike. Overall Vanderbilt is very inclusive. 3) Many of the reviews were from people who did not actually attend Vanderbilt, were high school summer students, or people who graduated long ago. Keep in mind that the people who usually seek out websites like this to write reviews are the unhappy ones!!Good luck with college searches! Come to Vandy! It's great!
