RPI can be a brutal place, both in terms of atmosphere and academics. That said, taking an active interest in one's career and working hard should and do lead to success. Popular opinion seems to be that there is no social life to be had at RPI. This is patently false. There are numerous clubs and fraternities on campus, and quite a few places to go in town for an admittedly-quiet night out with friends. RPI can be quite bright and extremely diligent - things that can make them both quirky and competitive. Tolerance and persistence produce lasting and valuable relationships.
