I am a finance major, and I chose FAU because of the false idea that it's a "growing and progressing university". This school is absolutely AWFUL. Don't ever come here. This school gives undergraduates the perception of an awesome university, and an even better surrounding city. This is all lies. The university is actually getting overpopulated, not progressing. Also, the academics are sub par. Professors hardly teach you the traditional way. Instead they prefer online classes which render their lectures useless to go to. Some professors are absolutely horrible! A business professor (not saying any names) who teaches Introduction to Business makes an elective class as rigorous as core classes. This man intentionally tries to make students fail, and is horrible to communicate with. Also, the staff treats students we're five. If you want to be somewhere where you feel like you're in college, then don't come here. The dorms are decorated like middle schools, the RAs are just Nazis, and the hall coordinators remind me of my grandma. For the campus being absolutely dry, and nonexistent of student life, the amount of cops on campus is just ridiculous. At FAU you can expect more law enforcement outside than students some days. Everyone who goes here doesn't like it here. When I asked all my friends why they chose FAU it always begin with "Well I didn't get accepted here so I chose FAU". The student body is absolutely dysfunctional and not united. Also, if you want your college experience to be full of crazy memories, dont come here. FAU boasts academics, however totally neglects social life. Plagued by on campus lame student activities, and the awful residents of Boca Raton, there is NEVER anything to do. So if you come here, expect to be bored every weekend. Also, the dorms are so overpriced for the stiff rules and awful prices applied to residents. The contract is horrible, and you can get in trouble for "noxious odors". Yes, if they claim your room smells like weed then you can get placed into their silly conduct system. To win a case in court you need evidence, and they don't have any evidence. They only KNOW that you're dorm or your person smelled like weed. Next is that the faculty is absolutely awful. Advisors will lead you in the wrong direction, and the cafeteria staff is just AWFUL and treats people with disrespect. The school really doesn't stick to its word. The Chic-Fil-A is still in construction to this very day when they claimed it will be done in the beginning of Fall… LOL. The greek life is lame and unestablished. The older residents of Boca Raton will never allow anything to happen that results in the expansion of the university, and the entertainment for a bunch of bored college students. There is no accessible commercial areas for students. The university commons is absolutely ridiculous. Whole foods is super expensive, along with bed bath and beyond. The Town Center Mall only has shops that appeal for rich older people (There's even a porsche clothing store), so forget about going shopping there on a budget. FAU and Boca Raton is just an example of putting a school where it doesn't belong. If you are rich, 50+ years old, and want to get a college degree then come to Boca, it's the perfect fit. However, if you're a young college student who's trying to earn an education then don't come here. From my experience I've had a terrible time. People say "its what you make of it" but then again that's just the facade that keeps people coming. FAU has a long ways before becoming a target location for undergrads, until then select a credible university that accomodates the lives of college students.
