My best advice to any incoming freshmen is don't take NJIT math as a joke. You really need to study your math every single day to do well, especially in Calculus 2. NJIT is a half commuter school, half residents. Despite the rumors, NJIT definitely has a large social atmosphere. Many people at this school are introverted so to them there's not much going on because they choose not to do anything on the weekends! I commuted for a year and was not involved socially at school much (I lived an hour away, so it was difficult to do that). I can tell you from experience however, once I started dorming everything changed. It was honestly the best decision I made in college! Get involved in Greek Life, go to some of the sporting events, and get involved on/around campus and you will be happier. Believe me.Also another tip: don't be one of those people who are afraid to go off campus because "it's Newark". University Heights is one of the safest parts of Newark, only behind Ironbound and Northern Newark. So venture out with your friends and actually DO SOMETHING instead of using the excuse that it is Newark. Newark is gentrifying, so that's not an excuse. Only the close-minded suburban people who have never actually seen anything for themselves would say ALL of Newark is ghetto.
