Major: Aerospace Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
I had never heard of IIT until my ROTC scholarship was placed there. Deciding to follow the scholarship (and military commission) versus going to my "first choice" school has already been one of the best decisions of my life. IIT's academics are very rigorous, and it is probably harder to get good grades here than it would be at similar schools. However, being at a school where at least 70% of the undergrads are in a technical major means that you are surrounded by a lot of very intelligent people (this can be very intimidating sometimes, but there are resources and support to no end for academics). One of the biggest criticisms from within the university is the (lack) of a social life, but being "social" at IIT is exactly what you make of it. I highly recommend going Greek early on, it's a very tight knit community and there is always something going on (if not Greek-hosted, student organization hosted). Even if you decide against Greek life, against student organizations, you will be living in Chicago! There is always something to do and the location of IIT is very convenient. The biggest con of the school is the food. For safety reasons, walking more than a few blocks off campus (especially at night) isn't really an option, so you are kind of forced to eat the school food which could use significant improvement. This school is very difficult, but is what you make of it and can be a very rewarding experience.
