Major: Electrical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
—About Me—TL;DRI am a rising sophomore at the moment, dual majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science. (My Business savvy uncle jokes that I'm a masochist.)I am a very intelligent person as I perceive myself. I am analytical and rational, an idealist with a dash of realistic perspective. Few I can rightfully deem as peers (yadda, yadda)… Being an introvert and a tad of a techie, I applied and acted on Rowan University, having been sold the engineering program in my senior year of high school because I wasn't sure of what work I wanted. To be on the safe side, and not over invest in a career path i wouldn't like, Rowan seemed Ideal. Initially I felt as if I wasn't really supposed to be at Rowan. Slowly, by taking advantage of my skills and desire to become all that I can, I realize now that Rowan is perfect for MY undergraduate. This university is certainly a place where many can waste time, bitch about work, and skate. But, the university also has the potential to be a place of great development, as anywhere can.—Campus Stuff—The food sucks, the area is near dead ( ), the internet sucks, gym is usually full at convenient hours, the library closes before 1am, the pool gets used semi-frequently by non-Rowan teams, housing people pretty much suck, freshman dorms suck (big surprise. Just go to Scranton if you are over concerned about freshman dorms.) the kids that hang around can be really bland, the student body is just about as diverse as a blank canvas, and there are very few quiet places.—Education stuff—Faculty has always been helpful. No professor has come off as a total prick, yet. All of my professors, have been accessible and have helped me 1 on 1.The professors in the math department faculty are win some loose some (a little more on the win side). The same goes for engineering. Computer science only teaches java and unix, I believe (excluding two courses in C++), but the faculty past the CS intro courses, seems to be strong.—Student Body—The freshman class was split. There are no bell curves. Most either fail or ace. I have heard that Cs are a rare and peculiar creature. The honors kids seem like a bit of a cult. They typically aren't too special. A few seem like contemptuous fools (I am not honors). Musicians can be very arrogant. I was walking with an uncased guitar and one made the very rude comment, "Oh I guess you play music." I had not made eye contact prior. Engineers can have a similar attitude, CS tend to be in smaller cliques, History majors I have met are self condescending, education are alright, and most non science/math majors will "ohhh" and "ahhh" at the declaration of being an Electrical and Computer Engineer. Many students have the attitude of, "Just get me out of here!"—The Programs & Some Advice for Engineers—Computer Science curricula seems laid back for the most part. (I think CS and Math are my favorite departments to deal with.)Those considering Engineering, I would not consider starting in a different discipline. Try to hit engineering first, as it may be very difficult to work your way into Engineering. Especially because Rowan is over accepting engineers. The over accepted last year with double their capacity, and have apparently done so AGAIN. The campus is allegedly being upgraded. The ECE curriculum is jam packed. From what I have seen, Education/Something, is even more insane. IF YOU WANT TO DUAL MAJOR WITH ENGINEERING, It will be NEAR IMPOSSIBLE FOR A FOUR YEAR DEGREE IN FOUR YEARS without having AP credits and at least one summer session completed. Concentrate on non major subjects in high school (Composition, Bio or Chem if you are not Biomedical or Biochem, etc). HOPEFUL ENGINEERS, IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT AND COMPETENT IN CALC, DO NOT DO ACCELERATED. GET THE CALC AB or BC CREDITS AND TAKE CALC II AND III. PLEASE TRUST ME.—Thank you for reading what I have typed. I hope it helps you in your decisions. Do not take my account or your notion of my character as representative of those at Rowan University as a whole (although there are a few more like myself as there are anywhere). Rowan, overall Freshman year, almost feels like the 13th grade. It is county for those that really didn't want to exactly do county. Most of GCC moves into rowan Jr year anyway.Best of Luck!
