Geneseo was an awful experience for me. I was shortly institutionalized after my year there. TO BE FAIR: I of course do not blame 'Seo for my nervous break down (it was a long time coming) but the awful atmosphere of that school did nothing to help my fragile emotional state.

My issues were similar to the other negative reviews: in the middle of freakin no where, poor faculties, lack of resources, lack of diversity, snobby students and faculty (snobbery that was without merit considering how unintelligent everyone seemed). The workload came in large quantities but the overall quality of education was mediocre at best.

Again, my difficulties there were not entirely Geneseo's fault. I had a learning disability and severe emotional issues prior to attending. The disability services and counseling center weren't great but I could have advocated for myself more. While I personally didn't fit in…at all…I know plenty of people who excelled socially and academically at 'Seo. Many of them were (surprise!) minority students.

I think the school has little to offer other than its reputable status as "harvard on the hill" (A TERM THEY JUST MADE UP). But college is a very…individualized experience. Check it out yourself. And no, not by taking a tour or talking to professors. While they may provide helpful information, SUNY Geneseo has mastered the art of self-promotion (i.e. fake posts on this site). You will not have a great understanding of Geneseo by going through their PR machine. Explore the campus, walk around town, talk to students, sit in on a class. These are the basic things I wish I had done prior to enrolling.
