Colorado School of Mines is a great school if you want to go to school each day and be told that you should think you're better than everyone else simply because you go to a "prestigious" school. Almost all the students and teachers think that anyone who doesn't understand calculus and engineering is a complete idiot. The work is abundant and difficult but not because it fosters better understanding. Rather, they just want the school to maintain its exclusive and challenging reputation.

Not all the teachers want you to succeed. Almost every test I took during my three years at Mines has had an average in the 60's or below. They make the tests extremely hard just so they can say that the academics are more challenging than at other schools. One professor I had based the exams on the lectures where the fewest people showed up just so more people would perform poorly.

There is absolutely no academic diversity. If you want to take a class in literature or writing or anything that isn't math or science, you will find very few opportunities like that at Mines. Mines doesn't seem to realize that it doesn't matter how much you know about engineering if you don't have the skills to communicate your thoughts and ideas.

Overall, the students have a very haughty and competitive air about them. The school's arrogant nature seems to eventually rub off onto almost all the students and most people seem very conceited.

The campus does not have a happy vibe because everyone is so stressed out. My recommendation is that you go to a different school where you can get an engineering degree and also learn how to be an overall successful human being because you won't get that kind of education at Mines.
