I'd also like to chime in about the recent slew of positive comments. Given the prevalence of negative reviews throughout the last few years, the admissions office is probably attempting damage control. When I entered Geneseo, people on this site had mostly good things to say about the school—but it was also a different student body then. Geneseo has been working on changing its image to a
Public Honors College
and aggressively recruiting more and more talented students… without actually having the resources to accommodate them. The reality is, students turned down private colleges to go to Geneseo with the promise that it would meet their academic and extracurricular needs, but the reality is it can't.

I urge you to look elsewhere for college. Please ignore the propaganda.

responseThis seems like an accurate assessment.

Geneseo is indeed a good school. It can be very rigorous, and has a lot of good programs. But an Ivy, it is not.

As they, like the rest of the SUNY schools, continue to struggle with a lack of funding, they definitely have to cut corners in some places, and it shows.

Some of the management is very questionable, and it's not really groundbreaking in any area. It's still a good value all-around for a public school. But it's not a Cornell-replacement or anything.

responseWell with that logic, reviewer, maybe all the negative reviews are by just one person or just a few people who are posting over and over. OR maybe the negative reviews are written by Geneseo's competing colleges. I mean I have also noticed that the negative comments happen in a small period of time as well. Probably an increase in comments in general means someone has discovered the site and told their friends about it (that's how I got here). You cannot make the assumption the positive comments are illegitimate any more than you can make the assumption that negative comments are illegitimate. I agree with the comment above me and think it is a more accurate portrayal of Geneseo than the review itself. It is a good school, but not an Ivy
