The academics are not any better than nearby CU and the social life is miles worse. If you want good academics then go to MIT or harvey mudd, or calpoly. This is really the worst of both worlds: you can't have the good education and you have to deal with all of the terribleness of an engineering school. If you think mines is a happy medium go to CU because it's just as good academically.

The worst part by far are the girls. The girls here are incredibly stuck up and mean. They won't walk on the sidewalk wtihin 5 feet of me and absolutely never make eye contact. I'd say I'm normally pretty confident and attractive, the women here are just so terribly disrespectful and conceited. Anytime I, or my friends I know, try and just be generally polite to the girls here its returned with a smirk or with ignorance, and this is not healthy for the girls or guys.

Even worse than the girls is just the general gut feeling that you receive day in and day out that your soul is cut off from real life. Your lungs inhale the oxygen in the air but there's something fundamentally missing from your life. Your dreams and ambitions and spirit are just ruined by being cut off from all things good and refreshing. You'll literally be constantly sick at the stomach from the general attitude and atmosphere on campus feel incredibly lacking something as a human being.

It's important as a good person to think out important decisions you make. I still remember licking the envelope of my confirmation letter and thinking I hadn't thought my decision through well enough, it was by far the worst decision of my life.

At the end of (every) day you just want a hug and there is no one to give you one.

If you aren't happy, transfer to another school where you will be. My daughter is a fourth year student at George Washington University. She's hated every moment of it but wants her degree from there due to it's prestigious reputation. You don't get these years back and I just think it's better to be some where that you will be much more happy and have friends. I can't imagine how you feel at the end of the day and it makes me so sad as a parent to know you keep quiet about it. Life is way too short to keep up with a school that you are miserable at. Do it, find a better place for yourself. It would break my heart to know that my child stayed at a school that they were miserable at. The best of luck to you and your future where ever it is. :)

I think all the girls don't make eye contact because you're probably just ugly. There is no such thing as a girl who won't make eye contact with a

pretty confident and attractive guy.

The school isn't your problem. It's your looks.

And the academics are the same as CU? Try again buddy. Companies will higher a student from Mines with a 2.5 GPA before they even consider a student from CU with a 3.0. And not to mention it's hard to get a good engineering degree while there is more smoke from weed in the air than actual oxygen. It's a party campus where people can get their LA degrees. CU is noooooowhere close to Mines when it comes to Engineering.

And by the way, if you want a hug, go get one from your mommy. This is the real world. People don't give hugs to people who are unattractive and lazy.

CU? Have you ever talked to an Engineer employer? They'll take a Mines grad any day over a CU grad. As for the girls… Well sure there aren't many but maybe you should find a more creative way to meet girls than staring at them as they walk by…

Dude… It's not that bad. If you don't like it, transfer. It is one of the best engineering schools in the country, has a 97% job placement rating (even in this economy), and produces world-class engineers who can handle anything. The academics are far and away harder than CU engineering. That being said, this school beats you down, and essentially hazes you into knowing you can deal with any problem ever. It's hard and the social life isn't great but if the girls here don't like you, maybe the girls arent the ones at fault. Think about it… Every girl at this school dislikes you… I have a girlfriend here and she is lovely.
