Maybe my expectations were a little too high or perhaps I'm just maladjusted, but during my first year I couldn't help but feel like I wasn't getting all that I'd hoped I would out of the college experience. For starters, you will find that the reality of being stuck in the middle of nowhere sets in pretty quickly. There just isn't much to do here outside of going to class or studying. The party scene is limited, and without connections to the right people or a membership in a Greek organization, you can expect to spend the majority of your weekends sitting in your dorm room. Granted, there are always the practically on campus bars, but you have to be 19 to get in and they're only fun if you like the monotony of hot, sweaty, drunken dancing.

Speaking of monotony, I can't think of a better adjective to apply to the food than monotonous (with the possible exception of 'repetitive').

Another small complaint of mine is that there is something smug about the atmosphere at Geneseo. It's not the students or the professors, and I may be alone in the perception, but the school never tires of praising itself as a "public Ivy". The academics are good, but certainly not that good, and the narcissism is annoying.

All of that said, Geneseo is not without redeeming qualities. It has a relatively nice campus, a lovely view overlooking the Genesee valley, and good, albeit overrated, academics. The prospect of graduating without a hundred of thousand dollars of debt is pretty nice too.

My final word: Go here to get to respectable education at a very reasonable price, not to have the time of your life. I don't hate it at Geneseo, I just feel like I'm missing out on something.
