I am so sick of hearing some of the complaints from MMC students. How everyone is self-absorbed, trying to be the next big thing—people, this is NYC! you're going to find those kind of people everyday, regardless if you go to MMC or Hunter or NYU or anywhere. If you do not like those kind of people, don't hang around with them (if you can help it) or don't go to MMC.

As a straight female, it would be nice to get more straight men to go to this school. But overall in colleges across the country, men are outnumbered by females. At least we live in this huge city, we still have a shot of meeting guys. My advice would be to get a job or internship to meet straight men. MMC won't attract more straight men until other dept's besides dancing and theatre start to get more funding and recognition.

Most of my classes are challenging. I have to work hard to attain my GPA of 3.6. My professors often start debates that are very interesting and do not have one correct answer, which I like. Probably the worst thing about the classes, however, are the students who don't shut up. Some people say childish, silly, or even derogatory things that I can't believe someone would say in an academic setting. Also, in the core curriculum classes, I can always tell who is an acting/theatre major. Some people at MMC just love to hear the sounds of their own voices and don't even provide meaningful comments to this discussions, but again, this is probably just NYC in general.

I absolutely love the Comm Arts faculty. They are always willing to help me, or even just make small talk. They are legit interested in what I am doing and I definitely get personal attention with small class sizes. Some of the adjunct professors are hard to reach, but after all they are adjunct.

In terms of dorm life, I could write a book. I lived in de hirsch this year, because I was a transfer. DON'T live here if you can help it. The rooms are small, the community kitchens/bathrooms are disguting. There are 4 toilets for 50 or so girls! Your food and dishes will get stolen, trust me. They do not provide TVs or cable, you must buy these yourself. The internet often fails, and reslife tells you to purchase your own internet for $35/month. The UES location is great, but not worth it in my opinion. You share the building with preschool that's harder to get into than Harvard, from what I've been told, a gym on the third floor, which is not free to residents (I paid $450 for 7 months), lecture hall, a library that only has one desk for laptop hook-up. This building is ideal in theory but sucks for residents. The entire year there have only been 2 working elevators. During the busy times, there's usually one elevator that goes to the sixth floor only (pre school). They tell residents, who live on floors 8-10, to go to the 6th floor and walk the rest of the way up. Sometimes for events they have

mezzanine and 2nd floor only
elevator, and will not take residents up. The gym is on the 3rd floor, and people will wait forever for the elevator, when they could simply walk up a few flights. THEY'RE GOING TO THE GYM ANYWAY! It's ridiculous the amount of money I pay to live here to have my time wasted and to be humiliated. Next year I am doing the housing on Roosevelt Island, which is so much nicer.

Also, there is no reason why MMC cannot provide some kind of bus or van that does a loop from the housing to the school. When I attended university in London, my housing was about the same distance away from school that de hirsch is from MMC (20 blocks) and there was a van for students for free. Metro cards are ridiculously expensive.

The meal plan is very expensive. You will need more money for food. At Corner cafe, near de hirsch, you will spend $20 on chicken fingers. Portofino's will deliver, but charges $4 every time, no matter how much the bill is.

Keep these things in mind. Even if you have a part time job, you will need financial help from your parents.

commentI believe we all should try at our end to be successful in life. Its good to look up at your family members like you wanted to become your father and elder brother. Never think they will pick your finger and then drive you on the path. Try to make writemyessayonline way for you at your own.
