I came to Geneseo to major in biology, because I heard all about their great science program and status as New York's
Public Honors College.
Unfortunately for me, the biology program here is severely limited to pre-medical studies. If you are absolutely sure that is what you want to do, then I don't discourage Geneseo.

However, I wanted to do more conservation work, and until you get to 300-level research and internship opportunities, no other courses are helpful for such a goal.

I'm doing a mix of anthropology, psychology, and sociology to try and do what I want to do. The Anthropology professors here are either extremely unnapproachable and self-absorbed, or really nice but disorganized.

Psych and Sociology, the professors are extremely prolific and have advised me more than my advisor.

When it comes to the administrative offices here, Geneseo is just stingy and unorganized. My transcripts from another university were in place one semester, but lost the next, and the staff didn't understand I'd obviously had the pre-requisite classes at some point. Financial aid can be a little tricky at any school, but here I really felt like the staff had no concern for processing things accurately and in a timely matter.

Socially, it is true that Geneseo revolves around frat parties. After a hazing incident this semester, even those aren't happening. People have been going home weekly instead.

When it comes to a GPA here, the courses usually aren't challenging in concept but more that you get too heavy a busy-workload. It's no hard to get an A- here, but I've had a few professors who just won't give an A. In many of the classes that do test you on useful concepts, you still might need to teach yourself the material because the professor won't think that's their job.

There are a lot of surprises here. People overall aren't that bright or capable of having stimulating conversation. Some people are extremely nice but most people don't seem to want to build friendships. Even though the pre-med program has a great reputation here, I urge you to consider how important networking is, as well.

You might save yourself from taking bigger loans by coming here, but chances are you'll only be happy here if you keep falling for Geneseo's reputation, instead of admitting how much better off you would be somewhere else.

This is a small campus—and let's just say we BOAST to get 600 transfers a year. Of course, that means that 600 out of a only a few thousand also transfer OUT every year.
