Brown University is a great University for students interested in their education. Due to the open curriculum, students can pretty much pursue whatever it is that they please. If a student wants a curriculum spread over a broad spectrum of disciplines, or one that is more focused, they can do so. Because of the lack of gen ed requirements, it is very likely, for example, to see a pre-med student concentrating in History, or on the other end of the spectrum, a student who never takes a single course in the math, physical or life science departments. If you aren't sure what you want to study, however, it is important that you try out classes in a variety of departments. You will likely be surprised with what you find. Take advantage of the open curriculum. It's great. As far as social life goes, it is important to understand that while Brown students tend to have more liberal perspectives, both socially and politically, there are conservatives who are quite happy here! Honestly, there are students of ALL types here. Don't let stereotypes fool you. Campus safety is very important to the University, however, experimenting is not discouraged. :) The Brown administration and campus department of safety know the types of activities that college students partake in and as long as no one is in danger, they tend to leave students alone. Brown is awesome, and anyone with a desire to learn should check it out.
