I transferred into Geneseo in my second semester of my freshman year. I have to say that I am very glad that I did. While the campus is small, it is not too small, ad that definitely has its benefits. It doesn't take 20-45 minutes to get to class, and you always see both familiar and unfamiliar faces. Most classes are a decent size…I took a lot of Psychology classes this past semester, and all of the professors knew all 30 or less people in a class on a first name basis. Most professors are willing to help and care about their students, although you will always find the few who aren't as accessible. The campus is very pretty, with lots of trees and great sunsets. The only downside to the campus is that you have to climb uphill to get to classes. Most students are very bright, but not so smart that they seem intimidating. There are a bunch of places to get food on campus, and the quality of the food is just what you would expect from a typical college (Not exceptional, but not horrible). One of the big advantages to the location of the school is that Main Street is right at the edge of the campus, and there are plenty of places to shop, eat, and socialize there. There is a good amount of Greek life, but it does not seem like that is all there is. Sure, there are plenty of people who go out and get drunk every weekend at parties, but there is PLENTY more to do, if that is not your scene. The school is very good about keeping up with activities, and every Friday and Saturday night, there are "LateKnight" events (like concerts, crafts, comedians, magicians, etc.) There are also opportunities for students to go down the road from the school and go bowling or see newly released movies at discounted prices. The town is very small, but there is a Wegmans and a Wal Mart Supercenter just down the road for students to stock up on necessities. Rochester is only 20 minutes away, and there are free bus services that will transport students around town and to the city. Freshman are allowed to have cars on campus, but not having one does not really pose too much of a problem for most students. I was very worried about being bored and wanting to go home every weekend, but that hasn't happened. There are many concerts with up-and-coming bands, but there are also some big shows on campus throughout the year, with people who are more famous or accomplished (i.e. Rockapella, Lupe Fiasco, etc.) There are plenty of clubs to join on campus, which is something that was definitely lacking at the first school I went to. Basically, if a few people are interested in something, there is a club for it somewhere on campus. Overall, I would definitely recommend this school.
