I found this school to be an absolute blast, and a perfect fit for my skills and abilities. I am VERY independent and hate asking for help and having my hand held. The university does neither of these things—you do the work, are graded very objectively and are awarded grades you EARN. This is not the place to go if you are used to manipulating your teachers, displaying your effort and hoping that professors will give you the benefit of the doubt and 'up' your grade. In my four years, there was little one-on-one interation with faculty, which I loved, and I don't more than 3 of my professors would remember my name now. However, this ascertains that the work you did earned you the grade you received, not sucking up and being the 'teacher's pet'. If you do need help, however, all of the professors have accessible office hours and stress that you can come to them with anything. The social scene far surpasses that of any other university I have visited. Of course, joining a sorority or a fraternity is a MUST, and opens up so many doors to activities on campus, as well as access to private parties and entrance into bars, often surpassing the line and getting in without paying cover, and getting the cheapest, strongest drinks. There is quite a hierarchy in the Greek system, with the top 3 sororities and fraternities getting the most advantages (ie- access to bartending jobs, free cases of champagne in bars, best social calender, etc). The greatest thing about joining a house is that you typically chose to join the house in which you feel most comfortable, which leads to the house being full of people who are much like you. This greatly decreases the size of the campus—I scarcely remember attending such a huge university!
