Rowan University was a good college 4 years ago. Campus life was booming and everyone was friendly. I even will go so far as to say I can remember being invited to my first party the first day of freshman year by some awesome upperclassman and it turned out to be the start of what I thought was an amazing college experience.

Since then, unfortunately, the University has gone downhill. Rowan used to be ranked as one of the most socially active campuses in the country (not just partying) and now, to find a few people throwing a frisbee around is abnormal. They have completely shut down Greek Life and are systematically eliminating fraternities and sororities year by year until none are left.

People are beginning to call Rowan a "suitcase" school where everyone goes home on the weekends. Again, 4 years ago this was the opposite. Hoards of people would flock to various get togethers throughout town night after night, originally convincing people that you'd have no problem meeting new people or finding friends. Nowadays, kids are literally scared to go out at night. Murders, sexual assaults and other types of crime have risen so high, it prevents students from even having a social life. Be prepared to pack up on the weekends if you attend…

Aesthetically, Rowan looks like a prison. Recently, they decided to put 8 ft high black bar fencing around the perimeter of parts of campus. It looks like they're trying to keep people in and not let them out. Of course they plants flowers and shrubs in the spring to look good for graduation, but for the remainder of the year, the scenery is cold and unwelcome. Not to mention, Rowan cancels class at so much as the MENTION of inclimate weather. This may seem "cool" to freshman, but upperclassmen understand that being at class is vital and falling behind and extra work is more painful than a cheap vodka hangover.

Oh, did I mention that the school colors are Brown and Gold and our mascot is the Prof? Yes, that's short for Professor(s) and yes, an owl holding a book is how we represent the university. (This does not strike fear into other schools and makes school spirit one tough area). But those brown and gold sweatpants and sweatshirts look…"great".

As for faculty and staff…There is no place to even begin. The administration lacks any competence you may expect from a $20,000 / year university. Constant registration problems, class fulfillment problems, unavailable advisers, miscommunication between professors and administrators, IT NEVER STOPS.

It's so painful to write such a negative review about a school I initially fell in love with. I LOVED Rowan and was a proud member of the student body, SGA, Greek Life and various other organizations on campus. I chose Rowan over Rutgers, TCNJ, Kutztown (PA) and Stockton and now I'm beginning to wonder why.

I personally think with some serious revamping of the school, it can blossom back into what it once was. I urge extreme caution to anyone "on the fence" about this school, please seek opinions of current students and decide for yourself.
