Athletics are regarded too highly here, while

academics and scholarly activity are put on the back burner.

Too much emphasis in placed on propaganda and athletic dominance. Honestly, I'm disappointed in the quality of classes and instruction at UCLA. If you think about it, how many times have you seen the IVY league schools or even highly regarded European academic colleges/universities boast about their athletic departments? The answer: NONE.

Aside from Crew/Rowing competitions, places like Cambridge and Oxford put more attention on academic success. From an academic standpoint, UCLA is definitely overrated. Its reputation is not justified. Unfortunately, I'm stuck here for the time being. If I could do it all over again, however, I would attend another U.C. school. I will never allow my kids apply or attend this dreadful place.

responseSeeing as how the "IVY League" actually refers to the ATHLETIC conference and to the academic prowess of the universities, contrary to what most people think, I would think that YES they do boast about their athletic departments. Stanford U continues to boast, as they so rightly deserve, of their incredible athletic department which includes many notable Olympians. You shouldn't be so stupid to claim something as absolute, especially when you obviously don't even know basic information about your claim.
responseI mean NOT to the academic prowess.
