Michigan Tech is a very highly regarded University in the business realm, but the education you receive there may not match the reputation of the University. I ended up transferring from MTU to OU after a few years and ended up with a much better education in Computer Science. The CS teachers at MTU were pretty much all TA's that taught courses in outdated and unused software. At OU the CS courses were all taught by professors, with the latest software. Since MTU's reputation and price are way higher than OU's, that's a pretty sad statement.

Social life at MTU is ok if you don't mind the cold and just hanging out with your male friends. Drinking is a hardcore sport up there, so that helps pass the time. There are very few females up there, which makes the dating scene almost non-existant.
