I went to Michigan State since many of my friends from high school were going there, and I had expected it to be four of the best years of my life. Well, the social aspect of the university is not what I had a problem with. First of all, the campus is so spread out, that I had to schedule my classes with at least a half hour to forty-five minutes in between to allow myself travel time to my next class. Essentially, I day of five classes would take a total of eight hours. Secondly, the professors here are awful. I have yet to have a professor that can even pretend to care about a student…they're only care is either their status or their bell-curve.

To those that are looking at going to a school in the state of Michigan, my advice would be to look at U of M, Central, Wayne, etc. From what I here from friends at those universities, their experiences has been the antithesis of mine at MSU.

responseSome advice: travel time - I walked everywhere without a problem at MSU. Buy a bike and don't schedule classes at opposite ends of campus. professors - I would not judge them based solely off of first-year classes.
responseYou really cannot judge the profs based on your freshman classes - wait until you get deeper into your major, the difference can be night and day. As for the large campus, I never had the slightest problem with this. If you have a bike, there is no way it takes more than 15 minutes to get from one side of campus to the other, and usually they're closer if you schedule the classes smartly. Wait until you've been in East Lansing for another year or so before you decide you would rather go somewhere else.
Funny I know so many people at UM that say dont go to UM. Your attitude going to college will make or break your experience. If something isnt right there try to fix it instead of complaining (I.e. switch classes, dorms if necessary-be pro-active) Honestly, I believe MSU gives the best opportunity in michigan for a well rounded fulfilling college experience. If you cant find it at MSU good luck elsewhere. you may want to find out deep down what is making you such an unhappy person. You need to be happy with yourself. Good luck to you
