Geneseo is a good time, and the environment is def collegiate. The workload is somewhat harder compared to other SUNY's (I speak from experience) but it's manageable. If you want to get a high GPA though you'll have to work for it. Period.

The school has been building up its reputation over the years, so it shouldn't be too surprising that freshman acceptance rates are in the 30% range. That number is only going to get lower with the administration working to decrease the total enrollment number from 6,000 students down to about 4,500 (with the stipulation that students are forced to live on campus longer than before). This again is part of the transition from party school to top public LAC.

Don't let the big LAC image lead you into thinking that Geneseo doesn't have its fair share of parties. While some might tell you that the frat scene here is a joke, that's not the case at all. Greek life still dominates nearly every aspect of the party scene. If you're not in a frat or at least a sports team, good luck having a decent social life. Of course, for those that don't drink there's still a few student groups to take refuge in.

As I mentioned before, getting into Geneseo as a freshman will take good grades, high SAT scores, and an extracurricular or two. However, if you apply as a transfer student the competition is much less severe. If you have at least a B, show interest, and back up your application with extracurriculars then you have a fair shot.

For the record, Geneseo IS the most selective SUNY.
