I recently graduated from Vandy and I am an Asian American student from New England. When I went to visit Vandy, I thought it was beautiful and offered a plethora of extracurricular activities, and very accepting contrary to my initial belief. However, over the course of 4 years, I experienced a major culture shock. It seems like everybody is always into getting drunk and hooking up. And I am a jock myself, having played 3 varsity sports, but I expected Vandy to be different. I've experienced more than a normal amount of racist comments at parties and on my way home at night. No one ever says anything during the day. It is really dissapointing in that regard. When you graduate, most recruiters are from the south, and opportunities in the Ibanking/Management consulting fields are quite limited.I did make a few good friends, but the overall, white conservative beautiful rich boy/girl party school is very much true, and I don't see it changing soon.
