I was class valedictorian and was accepted to an ivy league school, but couldn't go because of family issues. The honest truth about Tech is that you have to truly want to be an engineer or scientist. It is not your "typical" college. You will rarely be having deep meaningful conversations, you will not take random classes, and you will not be "finding yourself" at Tech. You should know yourself before going there.

The courseload is rough and I found it to be more busywork. I came to Tech unsure of what I wanted to major in and left realizing that I wanted something different. The students are a split between the social/normal kids and the unsocial/nerdy kids. People on campus are pretty friendly, but I would say overconsumed with their work.

If you know that you want to be an engineer Tech is an ABSOLUTELY fantastic school! You will not find a better bargain! Its co-op program is awesome. However, if you aren't sure what you want out of life and are trying to figure out what you want to major in, don't come here. You will become bored and trapped.

Overall, I felt (and this is my opinion, no one else's) that Tech focused more on its own fame and glory than the students. Tech is very…determined in pumping out engineers, a determination that borders on madness and doesn't care if its engineers have been driven into the ground.

Would I go to Tech again? Probably not. I did very well (I had a 4.0 when I left) but I found that it was too much trouble for nothing.
