Hampton University is an institution that will prepare you for life. Yes, the university is somewhat old fashioned. Having a curfew during the first few weeks of freshman year teaches you how to be responsible. I admit if I did not have curfew I would probably not be on the Deans List. Yet, with all rules there are ways around them. The weekend curfew is usually not enforced by RAs unless they do not have a personal life. I hardly ever came back for the curfew unless their was nothing going on. Hampton is exactly what you make of it. If you want to party every night, dress trashy, not attend class,or otherwise have another reason for attending college besides getting an excellent education in a positive environment than HU is not for you. During your freshman year if you took honors and AP courses in high school the course work will not be that challenging in the introductory level courses so I recommend taking honors level courses. That was my mistake in scheduling. Hampton has given me the opportunity to be educated amongst some of the best and brightest african americans in this nation. You can take advantage of that or not.The social life at Hampton is what you make of it. If your a boring person who likes to sit in their room then you will hate it. However if you like to attend campus events, party, or hang out with friends you will like it. We dont have parties every night but I still find a way to have fun. The frats and sororities are pretty active in the student center between 12-2pm. Fashion is a great aspect of the university. You will find all of the european and high end fashion designers around. People get dressed up every day for class and its just a part of being the best that you can be. Good Luck Future Hamptonians and Welcome to Your Home by the Sea.
