Major: Aerospace Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
I think that the college of engineering at UIUC is terrific. While there are many professors who are more concerned with their research work than with making sure students understand course materials, they are all very bright people, and can be learned from. The engineering college campus is beautifully laid out, well maintained, and stocked with the latest computers, technology, and software versions all available for student use in several labs. The University as a whole is very nice as well, a good looking campus with a huge variety of course options. The population may seem daunting at times, in the tens of thousands, but the atmosphere is very conductive to socializing, and after spending a short amount of time, the campus seems to shrink as you see familiar faces and get to know the hot spots of the towns. There is not much to be said for Champaign and Urbana outside of campus. They are cities enough in their own right, but nothing too extrodinary. Most students live in dormitories and apartments in and imidiately surrounding "Campustown". The overall best part of this university is it's education-per-cost index. A very cheap school by modern standards, this school provides not only curriculums not to be found many other places (my degree was Aerospace Engineering, for instance), but a respected name on the degree. University of Illinois is known nation-wide as a very decent school, and this helps tremendously in the post-graduation job hunt.
