A few words about the student body. SLU's students aren't too bright, they're not very motivated, and finding ambitious kids takes a little bit of effort. A large group of students seem to be there simply for the sake of finding a husband or getting an easy business degree and subsequent job. The administration and admissions office frequently tout the quality of the student body, especially as a new class arrives every fall, but in the classrooms, in the hallways, and on the paths outside, nothing has really changed. The student body is largely out-of-touch with anything beyond the city's borders and it's hard to imagine any of them contributing to society in the future. Sure, there are kids who go into medicine and law, but they do so while treating SLU as a technical institute, a job training program so they can get a nice paycheck later on.
If you look, there are quality professors, especially in the languages, history, and philosophy. Better quality can be found at other universities or colleges.

SLU is okay. Just okay. If you're from a small rural town and looking for an okay school in an urban environment, SLU is a fine place. If you seek a school to love, personalized instruction, and a more dynamic student body, check schools on the coasts.
If you're looking for a quality Catholic school, try elsewhere. The Catholic nature of this school isn't so strong. For a true Catholic environment, Christendom, Thomas Aquinas, and U. of Dallas are better options. Holy Cross, Boston College, Fordham, and Saint Joseph's Villanova are a few good places for a more moderate atmosphere.
SLU is a great place to study philosophy though. Still, there's better to be found.
