Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
Pros:
  • Education - top notch here, there is a major for everyone, and if you decide to ever change, don't worry, there are advisors to help.
  • The campus is very beautiful, it is large, but there are ways to get around that.
  • The CATA bus system is very helpful, buses arrive every 5-8 minutes around very many locations around campus, East Lansing, and Greater-Lansing.
  • The students here are very friendly, motivated, and driven. Many of them seem to have a lot of money, but that doesn't seem to be a factor in personality here. They are also some of the most spirited. There is nothing like Spartan Stadium on a Saturday afternoon, or the Breslin Center on a weeknight.
  • The surrounding city is very cool. Downtown East Lansing is a typical college strip with great bars, places to eat, shops, etc. There is a great mix of both big city and then natural areas all over, so take your pick of what you like best and you will have it here.
  • Sports, sports, sports, sports. If you don't like sports here, you are a minority. Whether it is Big Ten NCAA action, or an IM League (which anyone can join), almost everyone seems to be involved, or have been involved in one sport or another.
  • Activities! Want something to do? Go see many of the movies that the university offers for free on weekends, go to the craft night or the talent show. There is ALWAYS something to do, and they are always planned out very well. The social scene is great here too, there are plenty of parties.
  • Cons:

  • Huge student body, it seems some cannot handle it and they slip through the cracks.
  • Large classes, especially in lower level classes. They will shrink as you advance, but this hurts some students off the bat.
  • COLD! (If you are from the Mid-West, you should be used to this anyway.)It's usually very cold Decemeber-March, (school ends in late April), many students take summer classes however, so that is a good time to enjoy the campus' true beauty.
  • Parking, there is pretty much no place to park … unless you want a ticket. Freshmen aren't allowed cars, but it's even a fight for upper-classmen to get this parking spots.
  • Tuition - we are expecting at least a 5% increase this year.
  • Overall, the Pro's outweigh the Con's so make sure you take a student tour if you are interested!
