I think that it is easy to unfairly criticize Rowan for common shortcomings of many universities. I have attended colleges on 3 continents and I feel that Rowan is special in a number of ways. Overall the faculty care about students and they are willing to spend time helping you or simply talking to you. Remember, at a lot of colleges professors will not even talk to you in the hallways; instead you’ll have to make an appointment to see them during office hours. The education and engineering departments are very solid and their grads generally due very well in the job search. The business department is not as well respected on the job search. The administration is totally incompetent and they are often battling with the professors. The library is still weak, although it is slowly improving. The housing situation on campus is a disaster. The common complaint is that there is nothing to do in Glassboro. While Glassboro is not exactly New Brunswick or Newark, there is plenty to do if you look around and are willing to interact with people. The Landmark and Main Street are always packed and there are always parties to be found. The drinking scene at Rowan does not dominate its social life anymore than at colleges “with things to do” such as Ursinus or Drexel, just to name a few. Students always complain that there is nothing to do at colleges and I have heard this said as often in Manhattan as I have in Glassboro.
