Been many years since I attended NU, so I hope things have improved. I wound up transferring and finally received a decent education. Although, as an adult, I now realize that NU was not a good match for me. I should have been at a small liberal arts college whose focus is education and not a commuter-based factory school for barely out-of-the-blue collar MASS locals. That said, here is a list of my complaints: bursars office was a nightmare, the school's focus was to have as many students as possible tuition $$$$$$, not education, rules, you are just a number, if you are not a go-getter (I wasn't, but I was certainly not shy), then you can easily disappear. The campus is DANGEROUS at night and is smack in the middle of a ghetto. The city's predators lurk everywhere and prey on the students. Don't think you'll be immune if you're careful, because you WILL find yourself alone at night, ie. walking to your dorm from the library at 7 p.m. (I was mugged, a girl in my building was raped by two men after being dragged from the foyer while trying to get her key in the door, and almost everyone I knew had been either mugged, or almost mugged at some time, or their roommate was mugged, you get the idea). Don't expect hand-holding by the administration, this school is just too big. As long as you pay the bill, they won't be interested in you. Forget to send in a form and your nightmare will begin. The best thing I ever did was leave! My daughter is now shopping for schools and she would attend NU over my dead body! Parents beware! Young people beware! It's about education, not money or parties.
