UMD has been going down, and I mean way down. There currently is a housing crunch so bad that about 1,100 people each year don't get campus housing and this crunch won't be resolved for years to come. The surronding city of college park is just a ghetto. Do not go out into the city at night, you will surely get robbed. The city is like a tiny Detriot, complete with your shady figures and drug dealers. Academics have also dropped, UMD dropped like 3 places in the 2004 national college rankings while other public Universities it was comparable to a year ago gained upwards of 10 places. The campus itself can be described in one word-UGLY. The lack of state funding for this school really shows with cracked pavement, buildings that need to be repaired, and construction projects that were never finished. College park is going down hill and it looks like this downward slide is going to continue for decades. Do yourself a favor and go to a better university.
