RPI is okay. I'm a freshman here and there are times when I just want to explode just due to boredom. You find, however, that because everyone, or else nearly everyone, is in the same boat you can all find something fun to do together. There are a few restaurants near by you can eat at that are really good, but that's about as useful as the city gets. Freshmen aren’t allowed cars, which kind of sucks, but you get used to it.

In all honesty this is how I would make use of the campus… treat it as a place to grow. Odds are you came here as a nerd. Make use of the gym make use of the library; make use of the people that are here. Don't bitch about things. Just use it to improve yourself. At least for freshmen year and especially if your a guy. Freshmen guys never get luck with girls…

The ratio becomes roughly 1:1.5 guys to girls when you factor out the guys who would never have a chance getting a girl… if you fall into this category of geeky guys… you might want to adjust…

A common thing here is alcohol. A lot of kids drink. I personally don't and won't let myself fall into that hole. It's become a major problem here… the way it is… if you have any balls at all, you can grind up with a girl without having to take a few shots.

They say Greek life is the only way to have a life. What ends up happening when you join a frat is you end up getting very isolated. You end up with only a few friends and you end up living with them. This may work for some, but if you want a lot of connections and have a good time whenever… just join some clubs. There are a ton of clubs. I'm Indian, ISA (Indian Student's Association) is a great place to meet people… other clubs are just as awesome.

You’re going to meet a lot of competitive assholes here. People who feel that they are "holier than thou" you catch my drift? You just have to have a little confidence brush off whatever they say… because it's just pent up nerd rage… Remind yourself that you are here for a reason. Always keep that reason in mind in everything you do. Don't do anything stupid or else the years will be really long…

Another thing is… remember to keep your standards high. Just because some girl roles up on you at some party doesn't mean she's hot. Another reason not to drink. A buddy of mine made out with a couple of "1's" while he was drunk, if you get what I mean… that's something you might want to avoid if you have even the slightest bit of pride.

So, to sum up. If you drink, you might want to stop before you come to RPI just because you will make fewer unwise decisions. If you’re a nerd, this is a great place to change… metamorphosize into something more interesting… just because your smart doesn't mean you have to look/act like an idiot. If you are a social person… join a club not a frat… you'll meet a lot more people.

Also make a LOT of girl friends here… they are the key to ANY party… or else just be a real chill guy who doesn't drink… you add to the life of the party and the frat usually doesn't care if you come in because you aren’t using any of their substances.
