My Villanova days overlapped the end of the student protest era (Nixon/Ford/Carter) and the beginning of the current era (Regan to Bush). In that sense, as a conservative Catholic from LI, I found myself for the first time in my life ahead of the curve. Villanova was seeking students like me to help settle things down. And we did, in our own way. The anti-war, anti-everything crowd passed on and was replaced by the preppies you still see on campus today. A Villanova girl was, is and hopefully will always be a cut above the slutty pop divas I have encountered at the college where I am currently taking grad courses toward a History masters. A Villanova man is supposed to become a family man, a professional who gives back to his school and community. For the most part, that is true. The thing I most enjoyed at Villanova was the opportunity to become a radio sportscaster, which enabled me to travel with the school teams and to visit other colleges. Then and now I have not encountered any place I would have preferred to have spent such an important 4 years of my life. If there is one thing I regret it is that I did not take advantage of everything Villanova has to offer academically. The education in traditional values is there for the taking—grab it when you can. In retrospect, I think changing majors from history to business was a mistake. Although it did enable me to dodge the science and language requirements of the Arts & Science college. Personally, I feel that business is an applied science, and not higher education in the real sense of the word. As for social life, Villanova is what you make it. If you want to be a suitcase resident, going home every weekend, you will not get anything out of college. Take the risk. Stay around. Get involved in the community. You will meet people, adapt more easily, thereby preparing you for your future life.

The alumni community is great. I still count my closest friends as my fellow Villanovans. The radio station alums celebrated a 25 year reunion recently and more than 100 grads, spouses, kids and friends came back from all over the country. It was great.
