Academics are great. Palo Alto sucks. Social scene and drinking get old fast. Life depends on where you live—if you live in a bad house, it can ruin your year. A lot of people have an issue with pretending that they don't work hard, and they struggle to keep of an illusion of nonchalance and indifference towards academics. Definitely not an East Coast Ivy League, which is why it's known as the West Coast Ivy, I suppose.
