USC is a great school, with a really tight knit feel to the campus and to the student body. When you get in, you are part of "the Trojan Family" which will serve you well by helping you make connections, get jobs, and make friends. The social scene is good, but is dominated by the Greek system. That said, the Greek system is huge and one of the best systems in the nation. I would encourage everyone to joing a frat or soror. Don't be put off by the stereotypes, there are your typical drink way too much, hazing, surfer guy fraternities(Beta) and your stuck up, cocaine using, bullemic, rich girl sororities (Kappa, Pi Phi, DG) but there are also really good houses for normal people too! For frats houses like TKE and Kappa Sig are friendly down to earth and don't haze. For sororities girls in ADPi and Thta are sweet and nice and beautiful. No matter what type of person you are you can prolly find a house that you would like and joining one will make your student experience a million times better.
