Being a research assistant for five different professors in the social psych. lab. during my senior year was extremely beneficial. (I wish I would have started this as a junior, however.) Not only did I learn about professors' additional responsibilities (other than just teaching), I gained confidence that this was something I also could do—and do well. I earned excellent letters of recommendation which aided in being able to easily find a job after graduaing. Additionally, I beleive, the prestige of earning a degree from MSU—in and of itself—helped.

I highly recommend that students sit near the front of the class/lecture hall, try to get to know the professor, and participate whenever possible. It really does make a difference being noticed/recognized by the professor—especially if you're "between" grades. If they know who you are, they may be more inclined to give you the higher grade. Besides, you begin establishing a network of professionals that may be able to help you after graduating or for getting into grad. school. They WILL remember you—whether good or bad.
