Students here are very motivated but quite friendly. Upperclassmen are especially helpful to freshman. What I like most about this school is that the student body is diverse in terms of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, and income. Basically, almost anyone will fit in here. Most of the professors here went to top grad schools (Harvard, MIT, etc.) and take teaching very seriously. They are generally accessible to students. Some will even invite you out for lunch at the faculty club. When the weather is nice, some professors will hold classes outside in one of Northeastern’s many grassy quads (be sure to bring sunglasses).

The co-op program is excellent. Most majors offer four or five year co-op options. You can decide whether you graduate in four or five years. This is fairly new. Under the old plan, Northeastern was exclusively a five year school. The new plan gives students

greater flexibility. Students can co-op in their hometown or in other countries. Co-op works best if you are proactive. Most managers will give you challenging work if you ask for it. The key is to look for ways that you can contribute to success of the organization or company. Creativity is rewarded. Prove yourself on co-op and you will have a job offer well before you graduate and at a great salary. Many of my friends who graduated from other schools have had a difficult time finding work. Most of them were forced to move back in with their parents. Some schools don’t even offer students internships which in my opinion should be a crime. The job market is extremely competitive now. Co-op gives Northeastern students a huge edge over grads from other schools.

Northeastern is also a school on the rise. The administration is making a major effort to make Northeastern a top school. As another poster mentioned, the school announced that they will spend $75 million over the next five years to hire 100 tenure track professors who are tops in their field: Other plans include more dorms, research centers, and a new football stadium. The campus is already very attractive for an urban school. Some parts of the campus look almost pastoral. Northeastern is closer to the center of the city than BU, BC, and Tufts. All the good parts of Boston are only a short walk from Northeastern’s campus like Newbury Street, Copley Square, Lansdowne Street, and the Museum of Fine arts, etc. My only gripe about Boston is that all the bars and clubs shut down at 2:00am. If this problem, you can always do your co-ops in NYC, L.A. or London where the bars stay open all night.
