Hi!My name is Amanda and I am interested in UVA's environmental program. I will be transferring this spring (2008). I am having a hard time deciding between UVA and the College of William and Mary. What is your experience balancing academics and social life? Were the professors easily accessible? How hard is the environmental curriculum and was there ever a time when a class was cancelled due to low enrollment? Any information would be of great help. Thanks! |
Major: Geography and Geosciences (This Major's Salary over time)
This university offers everything. for one, it is the best public school in america! it has some of the best programs in environmental science, which is what i did. the student body, though some have complained about it is really frindly, and about 1/4 of the student body is from out of state. if you don't like the south, then this may not be for you. as for sports, football is BIG here, football games are a ton of fun! if you're not into football, you can still make do. CAVALIERS RULE!!!! the town of Charlottesville gives you everything you want from a large city, but nothing that you don't want. it has lots of cool bars and clubs, shops, restaurants, cafes, etc. its bigger than a college town but not a huge city, and its only 1 hour from Richmond, which is a big city! the weather is also good for the most part. it doesn't snow too much, but if you like snow you can go to the nearby shanendoah valley. we get a lot of sunny days too! overall, this is the best alternative to an ivy league. its like an ivy with good weather, southern hospitality, an awsome city, and an awsome athletics program. UVA ROCKS!
