UVA is a great school, even for a woman in engineering. The work is hard, but that's the price of getting a PhD after all. Charlottesville is superb, go visit the Grounds in April or May and you'll fall in love with this place. The safety is not an issue, but if you don't want to walk, the University buses are free to ride and run on schedule!

I miss spending time in the libraries (Alderman will provide you with everything you may want in humanities, while Clemons will give you access to the most recent bestsellers and movie collection; the Science and Engineering library is being renovated and expanded).

Even if you are not into sports, you will be proud of what the campus has to offer for everyone. Visit the Aquatic and Fitness Center when in C'ville and you can be sure that you will not see anything close to this facility on your next visits, to other schools.

The Grounds is the place I will always go back with GREAT pleasure.
