I would not choose Millikin University if I had to do it all over again. I am graduating and do not feel that this University has prepared me for the real world. They tell you (when you come for your tour) that they will help you find internships and help you find jobs when you graduate. The career center tells you to go to your depatment for job serches and your depatment tells you that is not what they are here for. So basically you are on your own. Schools like Weselyn have intern summer programs and job placement programs. Millikin does not have this program.
Millikin in in the worst neigborhood ever. Students have been held up at gunpoint right in their dorm rooms. The dorms have securitied doors but anyone can get in by standing outside the door and waiting for someone to come out. Then they knock on your dorm door (there are no peek holes on said doors) and when you open them you get robbed!!! Campus security will take your statement but that is it. Make sure you have renters insurance if you want to recover anything. Moving into the Woods was the safest move for me. It is a gated apartment and no access in unless you live here or are here with someone. The 24 hour security for the apartment complex is worth it.
The staff here sucks, There have been new teachers in my department every year. No one sticks around for the long haul. This tells me that even the teachers do not like it here or they would stay longer then a year.
If you are thinking about getting a job while in school, think twice the school does not look kindly upon students who work, their job might get in the way of meetings. I have to work to go to school, I only have a partial scholarship (wich is very helpful) but I have to work andthey make it wound like a sin around here to work. I always work around the posted schedule, but it changes so often that I either miss work or miss part of a meeting. I wished I had chosen one of the other colleges that I had looked at, they offer more to the students as far as education and help with interships and jobs after graduation.

I am a first year communication student. Let me start out with a warning, if you only listen to one thing a stranger tells you your entire life, may it be this:
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE WHATSOEVER GO TO THIS SCHOOL.
I hope that gets the point across. I started out my college search considering many things about each school. I ended up choosing Millikin because of the campus being nice looking, pretty decent dorms, and a fairly good reputation academically.
However, once I began orientation, one thing was very clear. This school is not worth it.
The people are boring, stuck up, white-washed, upper middle class brats. Boring, not worldly, and lacking intellect.
Most of them haven't worked more than a day in their life.
The school itself is alright, the education is fairly alright. BUT, the staff is not helpful in regards to setting up schedules, etc. It is also poorly located. There are many people I know who have been mugged. The campus itself is fairly safe--but step a block in either direction and you are in the ghetto. Decatur is a dying town. There is no economy here besides soybean processing, and in one word: SMELLY. There are days the air is thick with the smell, a pungent cat food like odor that seeps into the dorms. It is disgusting. There is a train that goes by every day about 15 times, about 10 of which are between the hours of 11 pm and 4 am. Not a pleasant way to wake up.
The party scene here is boring. The Frats are stereotypically the only place anything goes on. I've met some nice people, but the parties get old, they are boring, and they represent a lot about the school, kids party here a lot because there is simply nothing else to do.
If you are looking for a cultured town with a lot to do and an educated, worldly student body, do not apply to Millikin.
They will give you a lot of money to go here because they are deeply in debt and give out incentives to keep people coming in. The retention rate is horrific, most kids transfer after 1st semester of freshman year or the end of freshman year.This is not a good environment to start over in, not a good environment to learn in, and most of all not a good environment for any intellectual stimulation whatsoever. Most of the teachers here are from community colleges and don't have much experience. It isn't worth the money. I am glad I realized this my freshman year and I still have time to get out and go somewhere worth being.

I loved the theatre department and hated the university.
Things to consider:
Things to consider:
-The food is often terrible. (Would not recommend to vegetarians)
-The dorms and Woods apartments are overpriced.
-You are not allowed to live off campus (unless your parents live in town) until senior year.
-The education is not worth over 20 thou.
-Decatur (the surrounding town) doesn't offer much at all.
-If you're used to diversity/cultural, you'll be disappointed. Few hispanics, asians, and some black people. Mostly middle class whites.
-There is a soy processing plant in the area. The whole town smells on random days (not kidding at all).
-Trains go right through the campus and cause a lot of noise (but you can get used to it)
I liked it there because of the people. The relationships and experiences I had kept me there. I simply ignored everything that I said above. But the lack of educational quality drove me off. Don't get me wrong, you may love Millikin. Just keep in mind all of the above.
